Newton Johnson Family Vineyards Sandford Chardonnay 2019

Gordon Newton Johnson, a pioneer in winemaking, grew up in Stellenbosch among top winemakers. With an economics degree and a passion for creativity, he explored wine as an art form. Self-taught with experiences in France, California, and New Zealand, he began winemaking at Newton Johnson in Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in 1999. His holistic vineyard approach avoids commercial additives, earning Newton Johnson high acclaim, including a long streak of five stars in Platter’s Wine Guide and high scores from international critics. The best juice is whole-bunch pressed directly to barrel without settling. Fermentation is spontaneous with no sulphur, allowing diverse micro-organisms to thrive. The wine matures for 11 months in 40% new Burgundy barrels, then 5 months in old oak. No fining, coarse filtration, or sulphur adjustment is done before bottling. Tasting Notes: Green and ripe lime fruit, white flowers, baking spice, crushed stones, and gunflint. Plush texture with a prolonged, vital finish. Ready to drink now and for the next 10 years.
