Domaine Morey-Coffinet - Corton Grand Cru 2019
Corton Hill is a distinctive terroir featuring 160.1 hectares of "Grand Cru" vineyards, with 51.2 hectares dedicated to Chardonnay, famously known as Corton-Charlemagne. Pinot Noir from this area is bottled as Corton Grand Cru. Thibault sources grapes from Corton, which are destemmed and, after a three-week maceration period, aged for 16 months in Burgundy barriques, with 50% being new oak. The outcome is a dense and dark berry Corton that shines in the 2019 vintage with its rich extract and refined tannin structure. This wine will flourish after four to five years of bottle aging and has the potential to mature for over two decades. Red Cortons are known for their reserved nature when young but develop beautifully in the bottle. Patience is rewarded, as Clive Coates MW notes: "Red Cortons need time to soften and mature well in the bottle." Domaine Morey-Coffinet is situated in Chassagne-Montrachet and spans 8.5 hectares, born from the union of the estates of Marc Morey and Fernand Coffinet. Most vineyards are located in Chassagne-Montrachet, with additional plots in Puligny-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. The vines are cultivated organically and aged in oak barrels, with up to 60% being new, depending on the vintage and cuvée.
